I'm ELLEN!

I'm Ellen from south Louisiana. I just bought a Play Pac off of someone locally and I'm in the process of a remodel. Any tips and tricks are welcome!

Welcome to the forum, Ellen. We're in South Louisiana too; New Iberia area.

Just got back from a trip to S Louisiana. Spent 3 days at Grand Isle, a week at Palmetto Island State Park, and 2 days at Chicot State Park. Thinking about moving down.

Welcome, Ellen! Congratulations on your new Play Pac! If you post some pictures and what kinds of improvements you'd like to make, I'm sure you'll get some suggestions. "Remodel" can mean anything from new curtains to a complete gut and rebuild down to bare fiberglass.

Happy camping!

Thank you! By 'remodel' I mean a full gut job. My boyfriend and I took out all of the poorly made furniture and pulled up the carpet on the plywood subfloor. The subfloor will also have to be replaced because of water damage. We are in the process now of getting the carpet off of the walls and ceiling that was attached with liquid nails. A SLOOOOW go with a heat gun in a scraper. I've made a list of tasks that need to be done but here are the first on the list:

Take out windows, replace fiberglass and screens, and reseal. I'm planning to use butyl tape. My stepdad is using his lave to make new window latches. I'm planning to use aluminum screen to preserve some of the originality.

The corners of the doors no longer meet the doorway. I got a thick cable and turnbuckle that they use on gates to create tension to mount to pull the two corners together enough to fit in the doorway again.

Reseal the vents and skylight. (lots of silicone)

Replace wall covering and put in wood laminate floors.

Ellen, let me be the first of many to say, "Don't use silicone." The stuff is a mess, and if you ever want to remove it, you will have trouble.

Go to an RV dealer and get ProFlex sealer. It will do a better job and will be much easier to apply.

Of course, any sealer is just a final touch on the job. If you have parts that don't fit quite right, find out why and fix them properly. Then use the ProFlex.

Good luck with hour remodel.

Welcome, Ellen! Congratulations on your new camper...the fun has just begun.

And Clif--I think Ellen's intent is to REMOVE all the silicone, not glop lots on.

Keep a log with lots of photos and make sure to show us your progress.

Thank you! And yes, I meant that there's a TON of silicone glopped on around every window and the skylight. I've been reading threads for days and have heard of the ProFlex, so I'll go with that. Here are some pics of the gut so far.

Right now, we're having trouble removing the carpet from the walls. The liquid nails is a pain! Introducing a heat gun to it tomorrow in hopes it changes the game.
