I've been lurking around here for months. I bought a rough 72 scamp back in January.
I've enjoyed all 15 pages of custom paint jobs, and all the cool renovations I can stand of interior mods. I'm impressed, and intimidated. I know ideas will come. But for now, I'll make it comfy and practical. Form follows function. The details will come. It's mine forever.
I've done some work. So far, I have 200 watts of free solar, a very good battery, and an efficient fridge. Music, beer, and dog have all been accounted for. I take to the road in one week. I'm off to Oregon to serve as a forest fire lookout. My 11th season. Anxious.
But what I learned today is that Boler, the origin of our little eggs, was spawned by a septic tank. I don't know about you, but I think that's a revelation. And very funny.

Welcome Gordon, glad you've got the beer squared away first, that and an easy chair makes the rest easy to figure out what's next to do.
I've been to a couple lookout towers, way back. I spent two fire seasons with Calif CDF, 70 & 71, but I was on the ground eatin' smoke. Loved it but Uncle Sam called. Safe travels to you.

Yes. I alway thought that Olecko's eureka moment was amazing.
Are you living in the Scamp for the summer?
Having some sort of roadside assistance (i.e. Good Sam) covering the trailer may take some of the worry out of driving.

I know, I know. Pictures are great. I sometimes just scroll down a thread looking for the pictures. But, I don't think my little Scamp is photo-worthy, not yet. Next winter will be the time for major renovations. I'm sure I'll "borrow" some ideas from this forum, and after living in it for 5 months, I'll probably have a sketchbook full of my own ideas.

I'll be living in my fire lookout 5 days each week, and living in the Scamp for two. I'll try to send photos from the road.

More than the worry of breaking down is the worry that I'll forget that I have a trailer behind me! All kinds of bad scenarios are possible. I've never pulled a trailer before, so the experience is new and exciting with a little fear thrown into the mix. Yesterday I had to back up a dirt road with people waiting to get past me. I learned a lot pretty fast. Still got a ways to go.
