Introducing a Newbie on the Forum

Hi, I am Chip from Northern VA. I don't currently own a fiberglass RV but my better half, Sarah, and I are hoping to have a small travel trailer in our future. We are looking forward to learning more. I have been camping a lot and have owned a number of boats in the past. Looking for a land dory to explore this big ole country!

Welcome, Chip and Sarah!

One useful resource on this forum as your consider trailers and shop is the Trailer Weights in the Real World database. It has actual scaled weights of various makes and models (axle, tongue, and total weight). With a couple of exceptions, they are loaded for camping. It may help you properly match a trailer with your intended tow vehicle. Post #297 links to a spreadsheet of the data than can be filtered by length, make, model, etc., as well as calculate averages.

Since you can't browse molded fiberglass trailers at a dealer (most new ones are sold factory direct, and most used ones change hands between private parties), a fiberglass egg rally is one way to browse a bunch at once. Some even have a scheduled time for "open house" tours. Here's a link to the 2017 Rally Map. Best to contact the event coordinator for advice on scheduling a visit.

I figure my 13' Scamp is the land equivalent of that other Scamp:

Best wishes finding your perfect land yacht!

Howdie Clayton- I was born in DC, elementary years in S Arlington, jr and senior high in Springfield VA, also attended George Mason, NVCC, and graduated from Marymount U.
Spent some time last August in DC with Dh but we stayed in a co ed dorm at the AYH Hostel downtown. Did the same thing with dgs back in 2014 after he graduated high school.
I read up on campers/rvs for about 10 years -did not commit till after retirement. Needs kept changing. Things that sounded good onscreen turned out to be less good when eyeballed IRL. The advice to check out a rally is very good, and Lil Snoozy factory isn't all that far away in St Matthews, SC- a shot down I 95 and a jog on I 26.

Welcome aboard. Definitely the way to see many different eggs at once is a rally. After you get your egg remember rallies are a lot of fun.
