Introduction

Hi all. Just wanted to do a quick introduction here before posting. My husband and I have had a 13' 1983 Burro for a couple of years, and we live in Minneapolis. The Burro in decent shape and completely usable but it's time to do some focused remodeling and maintenance. We live in the city and have struggled to find an interior space to work on the egg over the winter. I'm so anxious to get my hands into some work and the lack of interior space to store/work on the Burro is mighty frustrating. Once we actually start active rehabbing I will definitely post progress pictures. I've learned so much from the threads I've lurked on thus far about modifying and fixing up trailers, and I'd like to give back.

Hi Sandra, welcome to FiberglassRV. Aren't folks lucky that have indoor storage for their eggs? You aren't the only one that's jealous

We'll look forward to seeing your pictures and following your rehab too.

Hi Sandra,
Welcome from another Minnesotan. I bought my new-to-me '84 13' Scamp last fall just in time to camp twice with it before I put it to bed for the winter. It's in good shape, but I'm going to sew some new covers for the cushions and curtains for the windows, add a battery and, if Santa is good to me, a 50w solar panel and controller. This not having a place to do the work is definitely a pain. My OTHER project, a teardrop trailer build, is currently "stored" outside under a tarp so I can park my car in the garage for the winter.
There are two rallies in the works for MN next year that I'd really like to attend. Hope to see you there.
Take care,

I don't know if it would be cost prohibitive, but could you rent a storeage unit? It may be inconvenient because it isn't in the back yard, and you would have to run back and forth to home, but just a thought if you want to work under cover for a month or so.

Ann, that is one amazing workshop! I have serious envy. You could fit my Burro in there (and Donna's Scamp too) and still have room!

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Lil, I read about the couple of summer MN rallies and I think we might try to do the one in September. It would be fun to see some other egg trailers in action and meet folks.

Yesterday's weather was quite mild so I took the opportunity to get out in the Burro and fishing deconstructing the interior. I also got a better floor inspection and confirmed a couple of concern areas are indeed concerning. Specifically I can see the door area has been patched before, which I had a clue on but couldn't fully confirm before I ripped out the carpeting. At a minimum it definitely needs to be cut out and redone - it's not pretty. I'll put a thread for the rehab up at some point soon and post photos, so I'll leave the gory details for later.

I'm so glad I started reading FiberglassRV. When my husband bought this Burro three years ago he said he wanted an egg because they were indestructible. He's the handy one and his whole rehab focus has been on the interior work, which felt more like a nice to have until this point. I kind of went with the assumption for a couple of years, until I learned from the forum that Burro's plywood floors can be a problem if they aren't sealed up and I started poking around the camper...and lo and behold there is a tiny pea-sized gap exposing a bit of plywood that didn't look exactly solid. That was my one clue to this larger issue I'm seeing now.

So, as for my garage issue -- I would love to rent a place, but haven't looked at storage units because I figured they wouldn't want me to be painting and actually working on a vehicle. There hasn't been a lot of CL to rent, but yesterday I found a couple of options to call on. However, after yesterday's exploration I think I need something for more than a 1-2 month rental I was thinking about, or I need to find a fiberglass repair specialist and hire the exterior work out. If garage rental would cost x% of hiring it out and it starts adding up...yeah, as much as I'd like to learn and do the project we still have the interior to complete and a toddler and jobs. So....anyone have any brilliant ideas on finding a fiberglass RV repair specialist in the Twin Cities vicinity? I have found several fiberglass boat repair places that probably might work, but it would be nice to find someone with egg experience.

Hi Sandra,

Welcome from just across the border in St. Croix Falls, WI! We have been camping in our 13' UHaul for about 4 years now, and love it! I have been reading up on cleaning and waxing the exterior shell, and plan to accomplish that this spring/summer.

I wonder how many Eggs there are in the Twin Cities area? It would be great to meet at one of the rallies this year, or at one of the beautiful area campgrounds. Now that the New Year is so close, the camping season is closer too!

Diane
