Just bought a Casita LD, our 1st camper

After months of looking for a used Casita (<8 years old) close enough to look at, we gave up and decided to buy a new one. Not too many in central California. We pick it up in July. Looking forward to hitting the road and seeing the country!

Castia has changed things up considerably since we purchased our 2023 LD. They now even appear to offer an all electric option which I imagine they do so as to provide a lower entry cost point for potential buyers. Having more options is likely a better business model for them and provides more flexibility for buyers too.

However, I wouldn't think the all electric option would be very popular with a small trailer like the Casita. I suspect most folks who purchase a small trailer do so to have the flexibility of doing dry camping where using propane makes more sense, especially in regard to operating power hungry refrigerators and air conditioning. I can understand how the folks who purchase behemoth MHs would prefer all electric because they are pretty much chained to hookups in parking lots...unless they also spend another fortune to create a battery and solar panel system to enable doing dry camping.

It appears a 12V compressor fridge is now standard on all Casita builds, not just the all-electric configuration. However, as I read the OP's description of his build elsewhere, there is still a 3-way option, which he took.

Congratulations to Carl on your new Casita order! Now the wait...

The standard fridge is a small (3 cubic foot?) 12v. For a couple hundred you can get a 12v 4x cubic foot. For $800 and change you get a 3-way, 3x cubic foot refer. Lot of money, but we used the unwanted awning as credit for options we wanted. Worked out for us.

Yeah, our 2023 LD came with a 3 CF absorption cycle refrigerator. There weren't any other refrigerator options then either. In the not too distant past, Casita trailers came with 4 CF absorption cycle refrigerators. We were told that the refrigerator manufacturer that Casita used stopped manufacturing the 4 CF model and now only manufacturers the 3 CF model and much bigger models.

We have found our 3 CF model to be more than adequate for our needs. We mostly eat fresh food and mostly the Mediterranean diet. We also find the larger microwave cabinet to be beneficial too. We keep our small 700 Watt microwave, toasters, coffee maker and other kitchen items in this cabinet.
