Mompeif

Hi, I am looking for a fiberglass camper that we can pull behind our Honda Oddesey. We like the Lil Snoozy but heard they went out of business. We can only have something with a hitch weight of 300pounds or less. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, Cheryl!

Scamp and Casita make 16’ trailers that fit the bill nicely. You might manage a 17’ Escape with use of a weight distributing hitch.

How many people will be traveling?

Snoozy 2 is in business and making campers. Check out the Snoozy 2 page on Facebook.

We do not find that any weight distributing hitch is necessary for our Escape 17A. The 17B (with the bathroom) is a bit heavier, but still should be under 3000 lbs. with your gear. They are tongue heavy, so probably a bit over 300 lbs. We pull our 17 with a 2011 Honda Pilot (same drive train as the Odessy), so I wouldn't expect any problem.

2WD or 4WD? Ratings are different.

Tongue weight rating on an Odyssey (and most 2WD Pilots) is 350#, and decreases as you add rear seat passengers and/or equivalent cargo. I'm not sure why the OP mentioned 300#, but it could reflect passengers and cargo.

With a FWD vehicle, weight transfer off the front wheels becomes an issue with a full load (passengers and/or hitch weight). WDH can restore proper balance for traction and steering. Honda does not recommend its use but stops short of prohibiting it, so the OP will have to decide what exactly that means.

We also have a 2011 Pilot 2WD. For myself, I would not go any larger than a 16' Scamp.
