I didn't think the aluminum housings looked too bad - the 4" LED tail lights were a huge improvement over the cracked and re-glued originals. I could have painted the housings to make them blend into the body a little better but I didn't mind the bare aluminum enough to do it.

We have the repro's of the original decals and the adapters would not work with them. Best idea I've seen, or at least what I liked best, was the tail light area was fiberglassed over to fit the original curve and new lights mounted there, either flush or surface mounted. Because I have a rear mount bike rack I have extra lights on it.
