My new old 81 Casita

I am a new owner of a 1981 Casita. It is a fixer upper, I think it leaks everywhere. My plan is to restore it, should be fun! Any suggestions before I start would be helpful. I am really worried about the windows, can I replace them with scamp windows? Can't wait 2 get started

Hi John, to FiberglassRV!!! We are very glad you're here!

You have one of the first Casitas years made! What's wrong with the windows? We can help you seal them to the body.. that's pretty simple really.

Ask your questions as you go along. I would suggest posting one question for each problem in the Problem Solving forum. That keeps each Q&A together and helps with Search!

Welcome John!! If the windows themselves arent broken they are pretty easy to pull out and seal them correctly in a way you will not need to worry about them again for years. Lots of info here on that. Save the money for all the stuff your real do need to replace.

There will be many questions to come but I will start with the windows. The windows leak, mainly where they slide and not where they attach to the body. The person that owned it before me really liked silicone, it's everywhere!!! I think the rubber is bad but I have not pulled the silicone off yet. The plexiglass is scratched also, so I thought it would be better to replace them if I can.? I just brought it home on 11/05/12 ....yaa!!!

If your windows slide, and aren't curved... the "glass" can be replaced with real glass and not plexi.

SILICONE... gag! Fortunately, there's a thread (by BC Dave) that speaks to THAT solution.. and don't you dare put more silicone on to solve the problem... it DOESN'T!

John if you can rename your post title with something like "need help with Casita Windows" you may get more help. In the meantime if there are weep holes in the windows track/frame. If they are plugged water may be backing up - try pushing some weed whacker cord through them to clear them.

If you use the search function on this site (use the bottom drop down option - google option) for best results you will probable find lots of info on the topic.

Looking at your profile photos it looks like the previous owner did use a lot of silicone and that historically doesnt fix much for long. It also looks like you may need new windows seals as well.

In the meantime there is an older thread called Casita Window Repair that may help

I am very new to any forums, and I have learned more in 10 min than hours of looking. Thank you!!!!! I know all of these things have all been posted but have you ever heard of the fiberglass shell sagging on the outside and the shell breaking on the frame and a fix for that or what is happening?

John I think you are going to find that people here have pretty well seen it all and found more than one way to fix it. If you post your sagging and breaking issues along with photos with a heading such as " Need Help with Casita shell breaking" you should get some help.

Thank you for your help! So do I start a new post for the sagging issue or do I just put sagging issue with casita? I hope I can figure this stuff out.

You may want to do a new post under the Problem Solving - Owners Helping Owners Section with a heading such as Need help with Casita Sagging or anything like that.

Good luck with it.
