My Scamp Has ARRIVED!
My 13 ft Scamp arrived today, I had to take it for a spin. Yes, that is the ultra small econo box Honda Fit, handles it like there was nothing back there! It is better than I had even hoped for condition, potty and shower of course.

Congratulations! You'll have to let us know what kind of mileage you get. You actually found a hitch for the Fit?

I doubt Honda ever tested it with a Scamp, so I have to do the testing I guess. It has done a fine job of hauling my airplane around as well.

How exciting, the Fit looks great with it, in fact it makes it look quite big!

I noticed that too. Generally the tow vehicle makes the Scamp look miniature.

I'd be curious to know the Scamp's tongue weight. It does not appear to be squatting your Fit as much as the plane (but it's hard to be sure from the pics).

You are quite observant, and very correct. The aircraft has the heavy engine up front on the hitch, but the weight of the tail is not on there yet, resulting in the trailer being a bit tongue heavy, not enough to notice in driving it around though. The Scamp is not bad at all, I can lift it off the ball pretty easily, and I am an old beat up guy, the Fit hardly moves downward at all when hooking up.. I woould guess 80-100 lbs currently, no water in any tank.

Don, I really like your rig and I am not surprised at how well it handles. Since you posted a couple years ago can you update on how it all worked out as we are interested in similar sized rigs.
Also... The aerodynamics of the Honda in theory should punch a nice hole in the wall of air making for a fuel efficient rig. What kind of towing mileage are you getting? Thnxs

The Scamp and I had a good relationship. For just myself it was ideal I felt, easy to tow, plenty of room. I lived in it about a month by myself and could not think of anything better. I bought a small Honda generator to run the TV and AC when parked, that worked out fine as well.
When the wife joined me, it started to become a bit tight, the shower is quite small as is the bathroom, and she could not get happy with the crowded conditions. We could not see any future uses for it, and with some reluctance sold it, our travel days seem to be about over, due to old age and the fact we have already been everywhere several times..

Water in the tanks would make the tongue weight even less.
