New 2014 '13 Scamp being built now.

My wife and I have been tent campers for years and finally made the move to buy a Scamp. It will be finished on November 25th and we are driving from north Texas to Backus MN to get it. We opted to drive the 18 hours rather than just buy from the Casita dealer an hour away. I like the Scamp a little more and am ready for an adventure.

Welcome to the forum and best of everything with your new Scamp.! I'm sure you will hear from others soon! We are the proud owner of a 2011 Scamp which we tow with a Subaru Legacy Sedan, 2008. We've had many wonderful adventures and memories and expect to have many more.

We, too, drove from California to Backus, Minnesota to pick up our "baby". We stayed at Sandy Pines Resort for a night before returning home. This allowed us to get a feel for the trailer and to check out all the "bugs" while being close to the factory should we need to return. Everything checked out well. The only thing we wished we had had was a soft cushion or comforter on which to sleep because the trailer cushions are VERY firm. Later, like many trailer owners, we custom-made a thermafoam topper among other things.

You might want to look up "new scamp trip" in the Google section of the "Search" button on this page. You will find the tales of other new Scamp owners there.

PS The photo was taken in Zion National Park in Utah.

What made you decide Scamp over the Casita since you are so close to them?

We liked the customizable options on the Scamp. The casitas were basically sold as they were built. Not many choices. The casitas are equally great. It was a close race.

I'd like to answer this question too. 8 Years ago I agonized over which to get Scamp or Casita. The internal height swayed me. The 13' Casita was listed as 5' 10" inside, Scamp was listed as 6' 1" then. After I made the decision I discovered the customizing via options thing. The new Scamp 13's are a bit taller.

I visited the Casita factory a couple of years ago to see what a 13 would look like, but they didn't have any available and weren't building any that day. Ended up getting a Scamp 16 because it was the first used fiberglass camper that was still available when we called and have enjoyed it ever since.
The newer Scamps are all taller inside than the 13' and 16' Casitas, but the 17' Casita seems to have better headroom since the A/C is toward the back and you don't have to duck under it all the time. I do tend to bump my head on the door of 17' Casitas when I exit if I forget to duck though.
