New member from Iowa

Hi all. I wanted to introduce ourselves as new members. We just bought a "new to us" 1980 13' Burro locally. This is a camper I've seen over the years parked in the family's backyard in a small town. This past spring I saw it again in another town, not knowing it was the same camper. Talked to the owner who's parent bought it, mayby originally, and bought it from her.

I've done some preliminary inspection on it and my wife and I gutted it, burned the swolen cabinet doors, removed supurflous additions and modifications to get it down to basices. The refrigerator was a walmart special that they cut out the cabinet to fit, the stove was an empty shell, the bunk pole holders were destroyed, the door sags and the tonge is damaged and needs repair.

I have a lot to look forward to making it into a presentable camper and am looking forward to it.

Welcome, Rudy!

Great to hear a long-neglected trailer is going to get a new lease on life. Lots of very experienced rehabbers here, so be sure to ask lots of questions. Pictures are always helpful.

Best wishes with your project.

Many people in our neighborhood have been watching Paul (us) working on our 1973 amerigo the last 9 months...sometimes they stop to visit, peek inside, and sometimes even go inside. We never expected this to be a partly community project.

You're taking on a big job...that can be very satisfying and rewarding!

Welcome and best luck!

The Beneficent Ruler says

Thank you all. My wife and i struggled some with the decision to take on this project. It was a choice between the Burro or a new Scamp! What a choice! But the chance to "put our stamp" on something like this and make it our own was just too strong, and I get to learn and practice new skills.

The posts by others are fascinating and will be very helpful, especially the fiberglassing. I also get to search for the things we want in/on our "new-to-us" camper without having to take what the manufacturer of a new camper thinks i need/want.

My short term goal is to get it road ready so we can camp it at least once this fall. Now that our youngest is out of school we can finally get to do it. Floor, frame, wheels, lights and wiring along with new cushions are on the short list!

Wish me luck!

First off, the best of luck with your project. Secondly, if you've made enough progress to take her out by the end of September, you might want to consider attending the Mississippi River Rally at Thompson Causeway campground near Thompson, Illinois the last weekend in September. If she's not quite ready, you might want to just stop by and look at all the fiberglass rigs that will be there. We will be there with our Escape and I'm sure there will be a boler there along with many other campers.Hope to see you there, look me up,
Iowa Dave
