New Old Scamp

Hi-
I'm just starting in here-

We bought a 1976 Scamp and just brought it home to Michigan from North Carolina. It needs just about everything, but mostly, some TLC.
I have already learned a lot from the forum postings, and all the pictures and articles have given me lots of good ideas.
I hope to get this camper ready for the road by next year. Thanks, everybody, for posting so much good information. ThomKat

Tom, I'm in the GR area and am just finishing up the rehabbing a poorly cared for '93. I wish you well.

Welcome Thom. I have a '77 which I've worked on off and on the last year. Its been fun learning about all the things I never knew--e.g. electrical, solar, fiberglass, plumbing, etc. I couldn't have done it without this forum. And the best part was that first camping trip in the spring with my little Scamp. Prioritize your work, starting with the safety upgrades: electrical, Propane line, brakes, axle, frame integrity, tires, and reliable battery as well as making sure the trailer is well sealed to keep out the elements (windows, rivits, cracks, bellyband). Don't worry about making it perfect. Just go camping and enjoy it and work on perfecting it over time.

Hi Tom, glad to see you found your trailer! You're getting good advice. Safety first! I always think it's best to start from the "ground up". Tires, bearings, frame, lights. And as Linda said, it doesn't need to be perfect, just perfect for you!

Picture?

Well, we brought this home from N. Carolina with tow lights because the lights don't work.

I have already pulled out all of the cabinets and benches, and I took it today to a repair place to have the lights fixed. Wheels and axle seem to be OK.

Ted- I found the camper on the classifieds here. It was near Fayetteville. We had a crazy trip down there to get it- with stick-on lights and the door wired shut. This was up over the mountains on back roads...

Hey Donna-

I just posted that- it took you about ten seconds to respond. Do you live here on the forums?

You can see that the Scamp is rough- see what I meant about the door not fitting- but yes, it's mostly there, and tows nice. It's a beginning...

waiting for a football game to start. I multi-task. One on the TV, the other on my monitor.

Do you have any inside pictures?

Hi again-

No- no pictures inside. I have pulled out the fiberglass parts so the fixit guy could get at the wiring. It's all there, plus the foam for the cushions. I will need cabinet doors and a new table.
I am missing the power converter, and the refrigerator is shot.

I am having a shop make a new door hinge part- I really think that will fix the door- plus the new latch and striker plate I ordered, and some good weatherstripping.

Say, can you help me find a post from just a couple of days ago- a fellow had painted his Scamp a really nice burgundy color on the bottom... We are still discussing colors and so on...

Donna, you are a gem, and a wealth of information! I hunted for that for two days, to show to my wife. It's a great paint job...

I hope your team wins; both of mine did...
