New owners of a 1988 13' Scamp

Hi all,

My name is David and I bought a 1988 Scamp 13 with the forward bunks configuration. The trailer is in overall good shape, has new upholstery and was spruced up a bit by the previous owners. Overall this is a big step up from the tiny reverse teardrop we are coming from.

Of course I got the trailer home and hauled the wheels off to get new ones put on and find that my beautiful barely rusty frame is cracked nearly in half where the axle was welded on Not good, especially since we are leaving Maine to Florida in about a week! Luckily I had some heavy angle stock laying around so after grinding off the axle and welding a 2 foot section on each side to reinforce the frame and then welding the axle back on we might actually make it to FL.

I guess this should teach me not to buy a used trailer about 10 days before a trip but no matter, got to keep things interesting right?

Welcome.
That cracked frame was a bummer but at least you have the skills and equipment to repair the problem. have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Any particular destination in Florida, and for how long?

Headed to the Palm City/Stuart area to visit my parents for about a month. We're pretty excited about it. My wife and I made a career course change earlier this year switching to self employment in a seasonal field precisely so we could travel more for ourselves (instead of our employers!) The camper trip is sort of a plan B. We had originally planned to take our sailboat south for the winter. Unfortunately, the logistics and weather realities of leaving Maine in the wintertime by sea have pushed back that dream a little, but this should be fun too!

Any route plan, or stop over reservations made. From our home in upstate NY on the MA border we made a few stops before reaching the east coast of Florida, down to Fort Pierce, across to the west coast, and finally at our winter home on Jekyll Island GA. We had the whole trip reserved before leaving home.

We have a general plan and route, but no reservations, we didn't want to make anything too firm in case of weather or other delays or in the event we want to stay longer somewhere. We plan to stop near Wilkes-Barre PA, and Stone Mountain NC
