New to forum - Is the 2001 16ft Scamp too small for a family of 4?
Hello. I am new to this forum and to fiberglass trailers. We have been tent camping for years. We are looking into purchasing a 2001 Scamp that has a full bed and a set of bunks. I have tried to find a Scamp locally in Portland, OR to see the layout, but can't find one. We are wanting to see what sleeping with two adults in the fold down bed is like. My husband is 5 11 and about 190 and I am 5 9 - 130. I just worry that we will be uncomfortable sleeping sideways in this. I would love anyones input. Thank you so much!!

Welcome! We are a family of four and have a 13 foot Scamp with the dinette bed and bunks. Last summer was our first season camping with it, as we were also long time tent campers. Our family found our little camper cozy and we LOVE it! I am 5'6" and my husband is 6'. We slept quite comfortably on the dinette bed over 20+ nights of camping. It's cozy, but plenty of room for two, or so we thought. our kids are 14 (100 pounds) and 12 (62 pounds) and LOVE the bunks. While they are narrow, they have plenty of room to sleep well. I think I remember measuring our dinette bed at around 44 inches wide by 74 inches at the longest part and the bunks are 28 inches wide (if I am remembering correctly.) We also built a bunk rail so our top bunk sleeper didn't have to worry about falling off!

We do not have any big issues with the bed, a little inconvenient to climb over to get up in the middle of the night. I am 6` 160lbs she 5`4, weight is state secret. But we do not fulltime, so a weekend or couple of weeks at the most, at one time, is OK. After all, it is camping, gotta rough it a little. Carl

Hi, My husband is 6'2" and we are very comfortable in our 13' Scamp (just the two of us, front bath) but they did make new molds in 2006 after a fire so I believe anything before that has about a 5'10" ceiling height. (And of course lower in the middle with an air conditioner.) If you call Scamp, they can probably line you up with owners who want to show off their trailers. Kr

Scamp Bed
We spend over 200 days a year in our Scamp 16. I'm 6'1" weigh in the 180's, Ginny is 5'6". We sleep better in the Scamp than anywhere.
Before we bought our small trailers we joked about learning synchronized rolling over and the like. We have never once said I wish we had a larger bed.
Ginny sleeps on the inside. If she wants to get up during the night I happily get up.

Give Scamp a call & ask if they could refer you to an owner in your area or post a message here with the Title - "Want to see a 16' side bath Scamp in Portland area".

Prefire 13 was 6'0"
Prefire 16 and post fire 16 and post fire 13...all 6' 3"
As for sleeping "sideways" all Scamps are 80" wide with the "head to foot" orientation across the width of the trailer.

When we camp it's 2 adults, 1 small child, and 1 very large dog -- and our choice is a 13' Scamp.

We are a family of seven. Four of the kids sleep in the trailer. My wife and I, and one of the kids sleep in the travel van. Or, if we don't take all five kids, then my wife and I have the van to ourselves.
