Welcome, Kat, from another Arizonan (White Mountains)!

Ours is not for sale, but I can confirm that you will really enjoy a small Scamp or similar over a teardrop, especially on a rainy day!

Do make sure you have an adequate tow vehicle, though. Besides weight, a full-height trailer has greater frontal area than a teardrop. The smallest start around 1300-1400 pounds loaded. There is more information in the Trailer Weights in the Real World thread. Post #297 links to a downloadable spreadsheet.

Best wishes!

19' 5th wheel Scamp Deluxe 2013 for sale

Hi, we are here in Tucson and have a great 5th wheel for sale. A 4cyl pickup can pull it without any issues. The 5th wheel hookup that fits in the bed comes with it. Let me know if you would be interested.

Kat, just a heads-up... Most Subarus have a tongue weight limit of 200 pounds. Since travel trailers typically carry 10-12% of their weight on the tongue for stable towing, that limits you to 2000 pounds total trailer weight.

In molded fiberglass, that usually means a 13' trailer with a single LP tank.

Thanks. Im looking for 900 - 1000 lb. As light as possible, ive seen the meerkats, burro and uhauls that lite. Nothing fancy, shower and toilet not necessary. Thanks all.

Meerkats start at 900 pound empty and without options. That would likely make them 1100-1200 pounds on the road. Burros and U-Hauls are more like 1300-1600 pounds loaded. There is one Burro in the trailer weights database under 1000 pounds, but I'm taking that as a gutted shell only.

Still, a number of members tow basic 13'ers with Foresters. If yours is an automatic, I'd talk to your mechanic about auxiliary cooling.

Ten per cent of 2,400 lbs is 240 lbs., but the Forester tongue weight max is 200 lbs.
It doesn't add up.

Right. A 2400/200 tow rating is unusual, but remember that boat trailers typically carry less than 10% tongue weight. A Forester might pull a 2400 pound boat, but that 200 pound tongue weight rating limits the Forester to a 2000 pound travel trailer. Other Subaru models are rated up to 3000 pounds but still have that low 200 pound tongue weight limit.

I'm curious if the new 2018 Ascent will get a more conventional tow rating. 3500/350 would open a lot more options for Subaru lovers.

Kat, I'll second Bruce's suggestion. If you are open to a vintage unit, a Hunter Compact Jr. is not only one of the lightest, but narrower as well, and the fold-down roof means less wind drag. Looks to be in decent condition for the price. Might be worth a drive to Albuquerque.

Re: Tom's post, we tow an '08 Little Joe, with trailer brakes, with a 2014 Outback, 2.5L CVT. Weighed for camping, it comes in at 1760 lbs or so, with a 178 lb tongue weight. Given that the Forester has a 2000 lb tow limit, you would be cutting it close, but you could likely do it. Being in Arizona however, you might be doing a lot of mountain driving, which has to be considered. We carry things like a 12x12 canopy and frame in the trailer, a run with the fresh water full. I did go to an 11 lb propane tank, which is more than sufficient for our use.

The Joe also has air conditioning, 3 way fridge, 2 burner stove, Group 24 battery, sink with 6.5 gals of water and 80 watts of amorphous thin film solar panels on the roof.

Good luck in your search.
