Hi - I've been lurking for several months and last week finally posted a trailer wanted ad on the classifieds. Like many of you, we are tent/car campers looking to move up to something dry with a better bed. We're hoping not to have to buy a new vehicle for towing, so looking for a small, very light trailer. And, we're really hoping for a bed that runs front to back to avoid the crawl over problem. Compact Jr., Campster, re-worked Compact II, or something else we don't know about yet. The front kitchen Surfsides 14 footers look great, too. Willing to travel a bit to get the right one, but really want a solid frame and shell, including the floor. We can do interior upgrades or changes, but don't have space or sheltered space to do off-frame work.

Looking forward to the journey.

Welcome, Rececca!

Even with the smallest, lightest units, you'll want a vehicle rated for at least 1500 pounds.

Check out the thread "Trailer Weights in the Real World" in the General Chat section (post #297 links to a spreadsheet). The one unit under 1000 pounds is almost certainly empty.

Make sure the trailer has brakes- not all do.

Best wishes in your "egg hunt"!

Thanks for that link. Ours is rated for 2400, so I think we should be okay with the little/light ones.
