Hello, I am new owner of a 1977 13' scamp fixer. She's solid but needs some interior love, the po did a real number on her. Thanks in advance for all of your advice!

Hi Kriss! I'm the new owner of an '81 16' ... I'm in the same boat - the frame and shell is solid but Jesus... what the PO did to resell the thing is a travesty. The more I get into it, the more I'm shocked by some of their decisions. I wish she hadn't "remodeled" it all - we would've been better off with it old and ugly than it old and painted-over-ugly. Oh well!

Welcome, the rework makes it your personal camper, and it really is worth it. I'm at the stage of putting things back in (I did total gut) but you really know what you have. It might "get bigger" as you go along, and things will get added to the list, but this is the best time to fix, change, rebuild things, and you will not regret the extras you put it.

Thanks! I'm excited to get the demo/clean stage finished. How did you get your closet out? The brads don't seem to want to budge!

You can remove closets and such by drilling out the rivets. Keep in mind that the closet next to the door provides structural support. You don't want to remove that one.

Thanks for the tip! I will have to remove the entire interior to paint, my elephant skin is covered with mildew. Another member suggested making a T-beam for temporary support, I will be doing this to ensure my roof doesn't sag.
