Newbie - Tom in Tacoma

Just bought an egg and joined the forum. '93 Casita Spirit DLX - in good shape but needs a bit of love.

Presently looking for a wiring diagram with no success but I'm sure it's out there to be found

Also interested in gatherings - we are in Tacoma Washington. We are planning on going to Quartzsite sometime from 1/23 on for a week or so....never been.

Best wishes to all,

Tom

casita wiring

The Casita Forum will have all the links to the wiring diagrams, there's also a specific Casita link on the top of this forum under "manufacturers" Casita.

Welcome from another Casita owner, (2008 17' SD,) from not too far away. We have several annual get-togethers in the PNW. Here's some links to some that are posted on the Casita Forum. A couple of these links are on the Casita Forum. You must be a member of the Casita forum to view them, (but I think I already saw your name there, so you shouldn't have any problem viewing them.) A few are from this site, and we also have one, (probably our closest,) at Taidnapum Park, (owned by Tacoma Power,) at Riffe Lake reservoir just south of Morton off Hwy 12, usually in early June. I don't have a current link for this years (2023,) event as it hasn't been posted yet, but you can Google the park for more info about it. We generally congregate in the "200" numbered sites area.

a 1993 is old enough that the modern wiring diagrmas are probably only sorta close.

first thing *I* would do with a trailer that old is replace thee power center with a modern one that outputs clean regulated power, and supports both 3-stage lead acid charging and optionally lithium charging. A 93 Casita probably has an old Magnetek in it.

that is replacing the progressive converter Casita was using in the 2000s.... your 1993 probably has a much older style.

Wonderful idea John! Why didn't I think of that since I just purchased an AGM to replace the dead Lead Acid? I'm pretty sure they have different charging profiles Indeed it has a Magnatek 6300 series.

After reading the article linked above from Carolina I called on a replacement so now it's on "the List".

Lot's to do on this old thing so for now I disconnected the battery leads and put it on a 1 amp trickle charger.

You may be willing to comment on my more immediate project which is installing a Breakaway switch. It never had one. I suppose I need to sever the large wire bundle that comes from the hitch plug - put a junction box in-line so I can splice into the Elec Brake wire (BLue) and the Aux wire (black).

Does that sound right?

Thanks again for drawing my attention to replacing the power center.

Best regards,

Tom

that big cable from the tow vehicle plug should have /some/ sort of junction box on it now. On my Escape, its inside, mounted on the floor, underneath the front of the main bed (which is in front).

Thanks again on the elec advice

The new power converter is on my Christmas list. PD Converters is quite helpful and their new models have charge profiles for all types of batteries.

As for the Breakaway switch I ran a hot wire from the battery along the from to the the switch and another that I spliced in to the electric brake wire (accessed from the loom running from one wheel to the other). Now I just need to test is but I'm feeling confident.

Also "thanking" another who chimed in with good advice but the name escapes me.

Cheers,

Tom in Tacoma
