PIcked up Scamp 16

Well, my wife and I scurried up to MN and picked up our new Scamp on Jan 3rd. We were in and out of the factory in 1 1/2 hours, foregoing the factory tour in order to get on the road and out of MN before the weather got too bad. I wish we could have lingered up there for awhile. The area was very interesting to us, but we didn't want to get stuck there. Made it back into South Dakota the first night and down to Grand Island Nebraska the second. Both nights temps went below zero but we were extremely comfortable as long as we stayed in the camper! We made it back home in N Colorado on Sunday, just before the "real" cold set in. The camper towed very well in marginal conditions. There was some pretty good wind and lots of blowing snow and a few icy patches, but the Scamp stayed right behind our 2011 Ford Escape the whole way. All in all, it was a very fun trip. As soon as temp go above freezing on Tuesday, I'll be cleaning up the Scamp and the car before taking some pics.

Morgan, welcome to the group. I'm sure you will find a lot of interesting stories and such. I know about cold winters in MN as I am from there. Glad to be gone and I don't look back. Once again welcome to the group.

There is someone considering a Ford Escape as a tow for a loaded 13 footer, they might appreciate knowing specifics of your Escape model such as engine, transmission, and any tow package suspension etc. If yours handles a Scamp 16 well a similar equiped model should do a fine job with a 13 ft.

Thanks, I'll check it out. And thanks for all other comments too!

The Escape is a 2011 V6 with factory tow package. The Scamp is a 16' standard model with Layout #4, AC, 4.6cf refrigerator, dual propane tanks being the main weight concerns. It towed beautifully coming back from Backus without any water or other significant additions. I'm going to weigh it tomorrow, before adding anything to the factory weight. I was a little disappointed in the fuel consumption, as it dropped from around 22mpg to around 15mpg with trailer in tow, driving aroun 55 to 60 mph. I'm not sure if this is normal, but I think it is not. I also have no idea how it will tow with water and gear loaded or how it will perform in those "hills" in the Rocky Mountains! That remains to be seen.

Finally cleaned up for pictures

Here are some pictures, as promised. If my sister-in-law ever sees the picture of her in her pajamas, I'm done. This could be my last post!

I weighed the Scamp at a CAT Scale as it came from the factory. I'll post details of the weigh-in elsewhere.
