Pulled the Trigger! New owners of Ollie!

it wasn't a mere few weeks ago we thought maybe we should get a fiberglass trailer for camping next winter out west. ( after the winter we had this year, isn't anyone?)Started our search here and on websites of different brands, then decided to wait because we didn't really need one yet and it was getting too overwhelming to sift through it all and WHAM! An 2008 Oliver 17' foot came up, and it as love at first sight. Made the deal, and will go get it in May out there in AZ. Now I'm reading everything I can about the love and feeding of a FGTT.

Since sleeping is a huge issues for me, ha ha, I am trying to find out about what different people have done to make their beds more comfy. I have read that people get feather bed toppers. Anyone know where? Any other Mods done to enhance the bed?

Can't wait to meet up with other FBTT enthusiasts out on the road. Happy Trails!

Karen

I'm looking at this as a spring and to keep the mattress dryer.

Feather bed toppers were pretty popular before Memory foam became main stream. Had one on one of the beds at home for a time and I think I got it a Bed and Bath or a chain store like that. Be warned they are pretty soft!
Using memory foam topper in the trailer currently and find its great. They are really easy to cut to custom fit the bed by using an electric knife.

Lots of people with Casita's swear by the Southern mattress. They custom make them.

Karen,

Welcome to the Ollie family! Isn't it cool how our small (but growing again...yay) family has so many cousins out there that we can learn from on these great forums.

Yeah, our cushions are a bit hard for sleeping but it does add to their durability. My solution was to top the cushions with a full size memory foam from Costco. If you go that route, be patient after you open the vacuum sealed package as it takes some time to expand to the final size.

I thought about a custom made mattress but wanted easy access to the large molded storage bins found in the rear corners. The memory foam easily folds back and I can reach cooking appliances or drinking water that is stored out of the way.

Again, welcome, and stand by for adventure!!!

Karen and I custom cut a memory foam mattress for our hunter-1.
We have a Snoozy on order and will buy one for it.......................
Have a few in our homes as well.
We like the memory foam in trailers as bugs don't like it like they do a regular mattress..........however we still use a moisture proof, bug proof cover on them.

ONE DAY SALE (2/25/14)
Wasn't sure where to post this, but there's a one day sale on gel and memory foam mattresses here:
Simmons Curv 2" Topper-Gel or Standard-5 Sizes
Everything I've bought from Woot! has been great quality and shipping is fast (it's an Amazon company).

The best way is you start a new thread and then post a link here to the new thread about the product. Maybe the moderators can help.

A one day sale can generate a lot of interest if it is the right sale!

Memory foam is terrible. I rolled out the matress on my bed at home to expand before I cut it and since it wasn't done expanding at bed time I slept on it.
Then I had to go buy another one for the bed room. It was twice as costly an addition to the trailer.

Congratulations Karen on your new Oliver 17 and thank you.

My wife and I were sitting in one of the 2014 Olivers talking to Larry when he got the call about the VIN for the 17. If Larry hadn't trucked over to the 17 to get the paperwork I might be the owner of that new Oliver. Boy, that was a close one for me. I was able to escape with my checkbook intact.

Enjoy!

I second the suggestions for memory foam as a bed improver.

Hi all, thanks for the replys....just found out I had them. Ha ha.

I bought a foam topper for it on sale at kohls....it was cheap so if it doesn't work, not a lot put out for it...

Orion , I heard there were a few interested people there while I was on the phone to Robert. I think it was a "meant to be" situation. Esp. As it all came down so fast. Ha ha

Glad to hear of the upcoming Michigan rally. Will try hard to get to it, along with some out west next winter.

I have another topic question but can't figure out how to post a new peppy on the iPad forum....hmmm. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Karen
