Actually I believe larrivee1 is correct. GVW (gross vehicle weight) is the total actual weight of the fully loaded trailer, and it is the sum of the axle weight and tongue weight. GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) is the upper limit of the trailer and everything in it. It all gets very confusing, but there's some help here:
