Ron & Mary Helmd

Hi all, we are Mary and Ron

We've been camping many years and downsized to a tent again from tag along and fifthwheel, too much hardware. Then did a slight up size to VW Westfall camper vans. Now we want a travel trailer just large enough for a comfortable shower.

Welcome, Mary and Ron!

You're in exactly the right place for a small, lightweight trailer just big enough for a comfortable bed, simple galley, and compact bathroom.

You can actually get all that in a 13' Scamp or Casita, but there are larger options as well. Coming from the world of conventional RVs, be aware that molded fiberglass manufacturers designate their models by total length, not cabin size. A 13' egg has a 10' cabin!

Happy "egg hunting"!

Small trailers

Thanks, I agree that we are in the right place and we'really looking forward to being a molded fpr unit. I thought all trailer lengths include the tongue.

At one time they did, and they still do for molded fiberglass and Airstream. But today most conventional travel trailers designate models by cabin length. For example, the Jay Flight 21QB lists an exterior length of 25'6". The "21" is the cabin length.

Mentioned it because it occasionally causes some confusion for newcomers who wonder why a Scamp 16 doesn't offer all the layout features of Some Other Brand 16. Many molded fiberglass trailers are narrower than conventionally-built trailers as well.

But coming from a Westie, even a Scamp 13 will seem spacious!

Bought our first FOR travel trailer.

We're now the proud owners of a 2010 17ft Casita Liberty Delux. The previous owners were very diligent with maintenance and did many upgrades. We're now in the process of doing things to personalize it for own use. We need a convection microwave that will fit in the cabinet where the microwave is. Can anyone tell us a brand and model that works there?

PS, I mispelled our last name on the original post, it should be Helms.

We usually camp at sites with no water or power so battery is at a premium for us, microwave and traditional air just not viable

Hi Ron and Mary,

Laura and I as new empty nesters purchased our new to us 2005 Casita 17' Freedom Deluxe a year ago one month after going to an egg rally to check out egg campers. We camped 36 nights this season, including a 1900 mile, 12 day trip to southeastern PA from south central KY.

You will love your Casita!

Happy Camping,

Dean

Good to hear.

Laura & Dean,

That's good news, we are looking forward to getting out. Last 5 or 6 yrs been camping in old VW Westfalia camper vans, sold the last one this week. They have been lots of fun, including 3 trips to West coast from eastern NC but looking forward to the shower and microwave. What area have you enjoyed most?

Hi Ron,

The VW camper van travel sounds like fun! Yes, you will enjoy the extra "space" amenities (shower) of the Casita.

Our trip to southeastern PA was epic since our college aged daughters were with us. They stayed in cabins or a tent. However, Laura and I tend to do long weekend trips from Thursday to Sunday (maybe Monday). We like to limit the travel to 300 miles (preferably 100 to 200). We went to 5 KY parks and 6 TN parks. We loved Smoky Mountain National Park (we stayed at the Townsend KOA). Our favorite state park was Monte Sano State Park just outside of Huntsville, AL.

Lots of cool camping in your neck of the woods. Laura has a brother that lives in Aberdeen, NC close to Pinehurst, Fayetteville, etc. He has a mid-1980s Avion that he has restored and he loves to camp, too. Laura and I hope to meet his family in NC or TN for trips.

2017 plans for the Casita?

Take care,

Dean
