Soon to own a Casita

I'm working out what options to include in the build of a new Freedom Deluxe. I am replacing a boxy stick and tin that weighs approx.3500lb. Looking for others experience towing without the Anderson weight distribution hitch. I'll be towing from Texas to Ctrl. Florida with a Tacoma v6 w tow package and brake controller. Am I a fool to go without WDH ?

With a mid-sized truck you are in a gray area. May or may not need WDH depending on your suspension. I suggest measuring the truck height at the wheel wells, have 400#s of friends/family stand on the rear bumper and measure again. Put a bubble level on the bed rail. You'll still have to make a judgement as to whether the sag/rise is enough to warrant a WDH. For sure get the friction ant-sway if you decide against the WDH. FWIW, I tow an SD with a Frontier, no WDH. I needed to remove one propane tank to reduce tongue weight.

Got mine last year with an F150 as a tow vehicle, so not really needed. Got it anyways. The price isn't bad, and would rather have it and not need it than try to add it later. It is not an off the shelf item, they have a special bracket for the Casita.

Not a fool, no. You could manage without for the mostly empty trip home. But I would be inclined to get the Anderson. Toyotas are fairly soft-sprung, especially TRD off-road versions. Once you’ve got the trailer and truck bed full of gear, you’ll have some sag. A WDH will eliminate the sag for better handling, braking and headlight aim as well as reduce porpoising on some road surfaces. It also provides a bit of sway control for the unexpected emergency maneuver.

Thanks jerrybob, Yeah I've decided to live to camp another day and go with the hitch. Have WDH on my current 3500lb camper and it's gotten me through a couple of hair-raising moments and those had to be truly scary as I am mostly bald.
