Swedish egg

Hello. I own a rare plastic egg called Carmen. It looks like a blue egg...

How very interesting and cute! Thank you for sharing this. Photos of the interior would be wonderful to see.
We love seeing the Euro Eggs.
Can you provide more information on the trailer such as the year and model name? I wonder if this trailer is truly a 'plastic' material or is it 'molded fiberglass' construction like the ones in this forum .

welcome to the group

Hi again.

Hello Pam! Thanks. The egg is from 1966 and the model is called "Carmen". Earlier models of this caravan was called "Carman", but somewhere they decided to change name...

Can someone out there in cyberspace please post the Eggie's pictures in another way, so that I am able to view them? I can't seem to open up the little box with the 'x' in the middle (hope it's not stupidity...but a lack of techie skills!).
Thanks!

A second after my plea for help, glorious 'little Blue' arrived on my screen! Did someone actually help me...or does it just take a LONG time for the little 'x' box to open, once clicked upon?

What a sweet eggie. It's GOT to be molded fiberglass. No one would've been able to stay long enough in production (from Carmen to the Carman) if they had so many 'cracked eggs' out there. Is there any plastic product that would withstand a biggish hit? Look at the thinly sided aluminum Eriba Puck...most old have dents...because material like that simply cannot stand up to hitting anything. And yes, Steffan, could you please take some interior shots, when you have a chance.

Thanks for all the answers! Yes it is fiberglass, but to me that is a form of plastic, so that discussion seems a little confusing to me. (Adrian! The roof in that car is bolted and made of the futuristic material fiberglass as well!

I remember Alan Funt on tv's Candid Camera driving a Citroen into a gas station and asking the attendant to check his air in the tires. The Citroen has pneumatic suspension and can drive with only 3 wheels (2 front and one rear) so naturally the camera man would focus on the attendant going around with the air hose and once at the rear, the perplexed look on their faces was the focus of the that show's episode. Certainly made an impression on me as I remember watching it.

Hehe, yes that is possible. The suspension is actually hydraulic, not pneumatic. Very good for pulling because it always keep the same height regardless how much load you put in it(or on the hook). (That is why that system also compensate for for example loss of a wheel or a flat tire...) It is also very comfortable to ride with that suspension...

Hi Staffan,

Love the picture of the blue egg and the yellow building, Swedish colors.

We all want inside photos.

Sorry Sweden lost the Saab. We picked ours up over there in 84 and after 300,000+ miles it has recently been given up for parts. A sad day for the family.

Welcome to the group, what area of Sweden are you from?

BTW, I had to log in to see the photos, they did not show when I was in without signing in.

Quite a resemblance to the popular Swedish SMV caravan (travel trailer)

And the door on the left is a reminder that I'm sure Sweden is the only country that drove on one side of the road and then changed to the other.

Staffan,

Thanks also for the picture of the red building. It brought back memories of the very special red color that is all over Sweden, and that I have never seen elsewhere.

Andrew: Thats correct. Sweden drove on the left side until -67, after that we changed to driveon the right side, the reason was probably to get the doors on our caravans to face the roadside instead of the traffic. (Or was it the other way around???
Nancy: The inside is not so nice. But I'm working on it... The original kitchen was gone ect
Yes we have a lot of nice red houses...

I went and looked at them, Staffan. thank you!
Tell us more about your camping experiences. Do you camp with a group of people, with other eggs? And is the inside of your Carmen as beautiful as the outside?

Thanks for posting the pictures of your great looking "egg". I've never seen one like that before - it's really cute and I love that nice big window in the front. Your Citroen makes a great tow vehicle too! Welcome to the forum!
