We've Had Our Fiber Stream Since 1987!

Hello,

My husband. Mike, and I purchased our 1984 Fiber Stream in April, 1987. We are the second owners. According to our paperwork, it was originally purchased by James Knight on April 1, 1984 from Diversified Travel Enterprises in El Cajon, CA. The Knights traded it in April, 1987 to an RV Dealer in West Plains, MO for a 30 ft trailer. We bought it from the West Plains, MO dealer. According to the the warranty papers for the water heater, the "model number of vehicle" is "006". The silver foil sticker from the State of California (located next to the door) lists the number "755292".

Our Fiber Stream is in pretty good condition. We have only had a small leak at one window. The only changes we have made have been cosmetic. In 1997, we considered buying a new RV. After much searching, we decided to keep the Fiber Stream and fix it up a bit. We replaced the awning and had teal stripes placed the outside (to match the conversion van we used as a tow vehicle). On the inside we painted the walls white, replaced the original white curtains with new white ones, recovered the cushions with Route 66 upholstery fabric, replaced the formica, and replaced the carpet. It absolutely looked brand new! Last year, we replaced the bottom cushions of the bunks with real custom mattresses. We should have done it years ago.

All of the appliances, furnace, water pump, etc. are original. Everything works except the furnace stil work. The furnace rusted out out. We use an electric space heater when its cold. (We carry a generator.) Our plan is to replace the stove with a 3 burner cook top and place a microwave where the oven was located. The oven NEVER baked evenly so has been used for storage for the last 15 years. We also need to have the outside painted since the finish is dull.

Everytime we turn on the refrigerator, we wonder if it will work. What model of frig have people bought to replace their old ones?

We only converted the bunks into the king-size bed one time. It was just too much hassle. We still have the 4 boards though.

I will try to post photos in the next few days.

I look forward to be a part of this group.

Cool

Welcome Mike and Nancy! Oooh, long-time owners! I have a friend here in San Diego who is the original owner of hers, picking it up brand new at the Fiber Stream factory in 1986.

I am still using the original refrigerator in my 1978 Fiber Stream, and it is going strong.

Nancy, Welcome to the group, and how cool that you've owned your Fiberstream for nearly 25 years! It would be wonderful to see photos. These fg trailers hold their value so well, that I have to wonder how the 1987 price compares to the fiberstream value for today? Have you looked into that at all?
