Trailer: Triple E 1978 Surfside

Hello everyone,

I'm also a new member, proud owner of a '78 Surf Side, and very happy to have found this group. There is abundant information and a clear willingess to help from all the members.

This is our first RV and this one is definitely a fix'er upper (somehow this is really exciting). We got a great deal for what seems like a structurally sound trailer. Fridge works, stove works, furnace works, 110v system works. 12v system and towing lights...no go; the roof vent has a small leak (apparently it has been repaired, but very poorly and obviously unsuccessfully). The only 'serious' issue I would say is the two 'fishing' holes that were cut out in the back area between the benches (under the table). Apparently this old TM-14 served as an ice-fishing hut for a while back then. But other than that it needs a good scrubbing, some paint and new flooring. Unfortunately the front bench was also modified and now it is some sort of shelf/storage area, seems convenient but not very pretty.

We have lots of ideas for our new trailer (especially after reading some of the threads here and seeing some awesome pictures). We will definitely start with the fishing holes and stripping the old flooring (half of it is already coming off anyway). We'll have to do some work on the cupboards and figure out the electrical issues. We probably won't have her out yet this year (you never know), but winter is a good time to do work on the inside.
Here are some pictures, it will look better soon!

Hi Maui
Greetings and congrats on the Surfside. A pox on the previous owners, who violated your poor trailer. Luckily, fibreglass trailers are relatively easy to work on. Since you are looking at rebuilding the front bench area anyway, consider installing a small dinette, such as this: dinette mod
Enjoy your new trailer.

Welcome Maui, that looks like a good solid trailer you got. Lots of potential there. Obviously the previous owners liked to ice fish in style...

This forum has been a godsend to me with my 1st trailer ever this year, you'll find it's full of info and very helpful folks.

Have fun restoring your Surf Side, somehow fixing these things up is strangely enjoyable...

Thanks Cam, that is a great mod indeed and would work great for us! I can see it being full bench AND dinnete at the same time. It will be added to the list

Welcome, Maui!

I always thought that Surfside had a significant difference from all the other trailer brands: They put the fridge up high where you don't have to stoop and bend to access it.
