We
sold a 1999
Scamp trailer to folks in the States a while ago and just last week a 1975
Boler trailer - no issues with either and they did not need a broker. They did both come up and take the trailer back with them as I believe if you don't that is where a broker is needed and that gets expensive and more complicated. They did not pay any fees at the border.
The US border guards were very clear that we as Canadians cannot take a trailer and sell it in the States. I believe one of the forms that you get when you import it is needed to register it in the States and if you don't have it you can't register it.
Scamp had
brakes,
Boler no
brakes. The Boler's
propane was certified in 1975 LOL!
When the folks called the border they did say they would check the
lights were working, don't know if they did.
I always encourage people to call the border they are crossing at and get their up to date requirements as things change day to day and different guards could interpret legislation differently. Also to speak with your insurance company ahead of time. In BC anyway we take the plates off the trailer when we sell it.
You will need the Canadian equivalent of the
title, make sure the
VIN on trailer matches the
title, bill of sale and I think sticker on trailer saying it met safety standards at time of maufacture but I am not sure on this if they are really old - all our trailers had it.
Good luck.
