Export to US from Canada

We haven't seen a potential sale of our Scamp.. The hitch however is the purchaser are US and don't have passports.
Is it possible for us to take the trailer across the border to them where they could do the import paperwork themselves or would it be best to use a broker?

Good luck. I spent 3 months trying to get a garden tractor from canada, and gave up on it. The broker helped, but it was still a ton of bs, and i got sick of it. Ironically, I was told being almost 50 years old made it easier...

You, or the tractor?

Where the thing was made is of some importance to importation, and for road vehicles age can be an exemption from some rules.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.

The tractor. I was also told it was easier since it was originally made in the u.s. then I jumped through hoops.

One problem you won't have, is that they needed an address for the manufacturer (long since closed), at the time the tractor was built...there were many things like that.

My understanding when I have checked with the border is that as Canadians we are not able to take a trailer over to sell, the buyer has to come to Canada. I do not know the process of using a broker but have the feeling it is not cheap.

Your buyers could get passport cards. Easier and cheaper than full passport.

Depending on where they live, a passport or a passport card can be obtained in as little as 24 hours, but it will cost a tad more for special handling.

I wouldn't risk becoming an accidental importer, it could come back on you big time.

There was a Canadian trying to sell a BigFoot just last month that was already parked in the U.S.. The price seemed super (I called it Grand Theft Bigfoot) but it didn't sell very quickly, and still may not be sold, perhaps for the same reasons

Short Editorial Follows:
Considering how long passports and/or passport cards have been required for travel, I have little patience for those that haven't yet "bothered" to get one, especially if they live close to Canada. (Not wanting to travel into Mexico I can understand those in the south not being so concerned))

But, then again, maybe the buyer doesn't want to, or can't risk crossing the border for whatever reason(s). Seller beware!!!!!

Just to add to my last sentence. Border crossers have been apprehended and held for everything from outstanding federal warrants to being delinquent on child support payments, and that's not to mention the issue of being undocumented in the first place.

Hi: Briantb... I know of one American who can not obtain a passport to come to Canada due to some past (behaviour) (Can. spelling) on record.
