Importing used travel trailer from Canada

I'm interested in a used escape located in Canada. I reside in NYS, what hoops do I need to jump through in order to make the purchase and register it in the state I reside? I've been searching the internet but it's fairly confusing to me. If anyone had experience doing this I would greatly appreciate to hear how you did this. Thanks in advance.

So much easier to get the owner to drive it across the border and handle transfer in your home state. I have done several motorcycles and classic cars . Tried using a agent , doing my self, and meeting the seller with Canadian vehicle on the USA side of the boarder. By in far the easiest and least hassle was this side of boarder. To the point if needed I add a couple hundred to purchase price.

Buying a camper in Canada

Hi,
We just bought an Oliver in Canada and spoke with border patrol on both sides of the border. Neither were informed regarding paperwork needed. They didn't do anything. When we went to register it we found out that the Canadian border personnel have a form they should completed that verifies the VIN number. That's it. No import taxes or duty as long as you are buying it for yourself and not a business that plans on re- selling it. We had the VIN number verified at our local DMV office, which meant bringing the camper there. Then we paid excise tax and had it registered.
