Road Food

We're on our way to the Tampa Airport to pick up guests. We stopped at Parkdale, our favorite fruit stand in Plant City. We bought 4 really fresh ears of corn for $1 and 2 quarts of ripe, just picked strawberries. December 1st in FL.

Next week our favorite u pick strawberry farm will be open $1 a pound.

Funny how two simple words can mean so many different things to different people. In our family "Road Food" means your favorite thing to snack on while driving.
Mine is either cold grapes ( from the healthy food group) or sea salt carmel corn and coffee (from the feel good crappy food group). My domain is more closely associated with the latter!

It's sad...but, I have a one-track mind!

I can't eat and drive at the same time.

However, if the traffic is very light, I like to gnaw on a frozen Snicker Bar, with a side dish of popcorn!

Heck, my dear wife says that I eat like a pig, but can't drive as well as one.

Hi: honda03842... I long for a nice big slice of "Pavement pizza". Usually while driving I munch from a zip-lock bag of dry Cinnamon Quaker Oat Squares and a bag of grapes. Not sure if it's health food or not but it is convenient food.

Norm, we just missed you! We were at Parkesdale Farms a few weeks ago, too early for fresh strawberries, but we enjoyed two of their colossal strawberry sundaes. Also got some jars of their Strawberry-5 Pepper jelly, made with jalapeno, Thai, cayenne, habanero, and bell peppers. Spread some over cream cheese for an appetizer, or just yesterday, on a hot buttered biscuit. Oh, my goodness! We need to get back to Plant City!

We lived just outside Tampa in the mid-90's. The fresh strawberries (and strawberry shortcake and strawberry shakes) in Plant City are the absolute best. Ummmm...

We usually carry twizzlers, at 9AM I start singing 'twizzler time'.

Bill, I can snack and drive. Admittedly we drive 'limited traffic' roads.

Tammie, They have the berries now, a little expensive but worth the price. We're forever talking about the goodies but the fruits and vegetables ae so darn reasonable, I always feel healthy. I also love to browse the orange and grapefruit samples.

Today at the pool a friend from NL was commenting about our Scamp to Ginny's sisters. She said Ginny dismantles Norm every night to fit him into our little bed, storing my legs and arms in a basket until the morning.

You may not know but these days I only grow my beard the month before my trip to NL.

Our favorite road food is the chicken McNuggets. You get 20 nuggets for $5.00. They're easy to eat and very filling. It can be a snack or a meal. You don't have to worry about drips or things falling in your lap. Nice clean and low priced.

We're McDonald's fans as well. Occasionally we'll go for a sausage biscuit. Sometimes if we're driving a longer distance (rare), we'll stop for a burger at lunch time, usually spending less than $5 for the two of us.

If we use McDonalds as a bathroom break Ginny always insists on making as purchase, an interesting part of her personality.

One of the nice aspects of a small trailer is the ability to pull into normally crowded parking lots, a mid morning coffee at Dunkin Donuts is always welcome.

Gotta go Canadian on this. Timbits, from Tim Hortons. Little round doughnutty things. They sharpen the senses, focus the mind and add stickiness to the driver's hands for additional safety.

We like Tim's and always find a good cup of coffee and a good baked item, though often the places we travel in Canada Tim Hortons are rare.

To turn your comment around, there are rarely places in Canada that don't have a Tims. Our little town, pop 3,500, has 2. One on the way in and one on the way out!


I agree with Ginny re bathroom breaks at McDonalds et al. Will buy something to say "thank you". Except pet stores and auto dealerships, to name a couple.

McDonald's coffee is really good. I ask for the senior discount. It's a quick stop and pick-me-up on a driving day.
