The Asterisks

This is not a political statement but rather should be a consideration for traveling retirees.

When you consider SS benefits consider this. On your Social Security Statement there is an Asterisk* statement.

"*The law governing benefit amounts may change because, by 2033, the payroll taxes collected will be enough to pay only about 77 percent of scheduled benefits."

Social Security is not a savings plan, but rather spend as you go. With fewer workers, more people just not working, more retired people, more people receiving 'other' benefits', SS tax collections are decreasing.

I noticed that same disclaimer on the statement of possible future benefits they send out every few years. I am many years out from retirement yet and it reinforces that I am not planning on getting any SS and if I do it will be be an extra.
