When you get done with all this, you should consider sending a copy of this thread to someone in authority in Calif, plus maybe a newspaper. Maybe it will get easier for someone else.

Good idea. Today I called again, to find out about the need for a signature or not. The nice woman I talked to said yes, now that there was a discrepancy in the VIN plate and the title, sign the form. Then she said, "I don't know why they've been giving you so much trouble as we can take up to three errors in the number."

I photographed the back of the trailer with the faded Campster logo and the VIN plate and Washington License plate and a closeup of the VIN plate, and will send that along with all three VIN verification forms back to the DMV.

Okay, we don't want to get my hopes up...

but a woman from the DMV called me back today to say she is processing my plate!

I will not believe it until I see them attached it the trailer and have the title in my hot little hand. But I'm hopeful of having a legal trailer soon. (I heard once it takes two weeks to get the plates made.)
