Trillium 1300 vs 4500 cost

If a person had their choice of a Trillium 1300 or a 4500, basically identical
condition and amenities [except the 4500 is bigger] what would you expect the difference in cost to buy be.

The Trillium 1300 has a number of differences with the Trillium 4500:

WAG, a couple of grand, other things equal, including location and season.

But really hard to say, because “other things” never are. T4500’s are rare enough you just have to evaluate each one on a case-by-case basis. In the end that’s true of all vintage molded trailers. If you over-pay (within reason), but it’s exactly what you want and need and you have the money, it will all be water under the bridge a season later.

When we bought a 2008 Scamp 13 in 2012 with some minor, non-structural fiberglass damage under the tongue and lightly oxidized gelcoat but otherwise like new, we thought we were overpaying at $4K.

Besides what we’ve saved on hotels over the years, which have more than covered the cost of the trailer and upkeep, the family memories are priceless. As one veteran member says often, “you can get more money, but you’ll never get more time.”

In top notch shape, I’d say $2,500 to $3,000 more. Difference would be smaller in good condition or less.

Finding either can be difficult. I spent a year looking for a 4500 and finally settled on a 1300. Even then, it was about 650 miles away (one way), and I felt I overpaid.

Realize two feet longer can mean a lot in these small trailers. A 1300 has about a ten foot long trailer section, so two feet is 20% MORE room inside. Everything is larger. And I much prefer a front dinette over the front gaucho/bunk. This allows you to have a small table up front and you convert the rear to a permanent bed. Bed is significantly larger on the 4500.

For most of us, the odds of having a choice is remote. Consider yourself lucky if you find either. But my choice would be the 4500 every time. The two 4500s I did eventually find both had the front bath (somewhat rare) and both had serious floor rot so I passed. One described as “leak free” had standing water in the dinette bench on one side.
