Value of 1976 scamp -needs work

Hi,
This is a 1976 scamp that needs work. She says appliances and electrical work, but water pump is not making noise. She’d like $4500 or best offer. Is this a reasonable price?
Many Thanks! Susanne

Is it reasonable is vastly different in the fiberglass RV market than is it worth it. There are more qualified people to tell you if it's worth it. Is it reasonable IMO? No. It's a money pit, depending on your standards. If you are fine with it the way it is then it doesn't become a money pit. Towards the end of my boat selling career there were a lot of boats in this condition for sale. Plenty of them did sell but most that I was aware of were eventually sorry for getting involved. Sometimes if you get something for free it's still not worth it. That was certainly the case with many of the boats in the market back then. I see a lot of similarities in the current fiberglass RV market. Airstreams have been that way for a long time.

Here in the upper mid west that may be a little high for one that needs much work, but on the coasts it may be a fair price. I would not buy without a title/registration, after that condition is everything. Check the floor for rot, the frame for cracks and heavy rust, and the axle for too much sag (I like to see all of the wheel in the opening, if it is sagging lower it may be hard to change a tire) and hopefully the paint is a quality application. Count on it needing new tires. It;s been a few days, has it sold yet? It is a bargain if you look at the price of new, Scamp has made MANY improvements in recent years.

There are two prices for anything. What the seller wants for the product to sell. What the buyer is willing to pay for the product. It's up to the two parties to agree.

...maybe we need a "like" button to click. I do some buying and selling at a local auction house and people are bidding MUCH higher than I would, sometimes for more than they could buy new on line, shipped to their home.

I agree with Donna.....so....what is it worth to you? Also......do you have the skills to make the repairs? Do you have the time? These projects can be fun and rewarding for some......or a real PITA for others. Repairs can be expensive......especially if you have somebody else perform them.

Thanks for your input everyone! Especially for the information on what to look for. The seller said $4500 OBO, so we’ll see what happens, I’m going to see it today. I love the fact I could tow it with my car as my truck gets 10 mpg.

Paid a bit less than that for mine. It was dirty, but solid. Like the above advice, check floors for rot, frame for damage. Mine had a busted hot water heater (they left water in it over winter)< but it was fixable. Mine is about the same age, but fortunately most everything was in decent shape. In looking at the pictures, it looks like you will have to do quite a bit of renovation on it...but it also means you can customize it to your tastes and style. If you are handy, should be doable. Lots of smart people here, I have gotten tons of information, ideas of what to do (and not to do) here. Just for grins, I pull my Scamp with a 4 cyl Ford Ranger truck (manual trans).Fuel mileage does drop, but it is not too bad.

Good luck with it if you get it!
