1997 Scamp Deluxe 7-Way Plug Wiring Help

Hi everyone...

I have a 1997 Scamp 13ft Deluxe with the round pin 7 way connector that doesnt use any "standard" wiring layout.

I bought the trailer new, and have 3 vehicles wired up to tow it. They all worked flawlessly.

However, I have bought a NEW tow vehicle and I am 1000 miles out of state away from my trailer. I want to wire up my new vehicle. Trouble is, I can't remember if the diagram in the old manual is showing the trailer/plug end or the car/receptacle end.

Here is a picture from the manual:

So...

Does anyone know FOR SURE if this picture in the manual is showing the TRAILER side plug or the CAR side receptacle?

Also, is the diagram above showing the back or front of the plug?

I'd hate to wire it up backwards...

Thanks!

Hi Gayle and Bob...

Thanks, but that is the industry standard 7-way Blade wiring.

Maybe I was not clear in my original post, but my Scamp is a 1997 with a 7-way Round Pin plug which doesn't follow any standard.

In my original picture from the 1996 Scamp manual above, I need to know:

1) Is the above diagram showing the CAR end or the TRAILER end of the connector?

2) Is the above diagram showing the FRONT FACE of the connector/plug or the REAR terminals of the connector/plug?

I emailed Scamp...they had no clue.

Thanks!

I might think very seriously about just replacing the plug when you get home and start switching your vehicle over to the standard. Cuz this is just going to keep biting you and biting you and biting you it's times goes on.

Now mine always had the flat 7. But those go out a lot. So I got a pigtail. If you look on the group are you see where I put a pigtail line on mine so just replacing the plug. And I've been very happy about doing that a great many times.

Yep... We are NOT fans of proprietary or complicated stuff in general and certainly not for camping in remote locations. Years of blue water sailing learned us good... KISS.

Here's my post on replacing the rv7 plug with an rv7 pigtail. Lot of wisdom in this

Interesting. My 1993 16 footer has an RV7 and scamp parts seemed to understood that it came that way.

But their advice kept being to replace the plug when I had a problem. That usually lasted like a couple months :-( Replaced it with a factory molded pigtail and no more problems.

It would seem more likely to be the trailer's plug, just since the diagram is supplied with the trailer.

The white, blue and red are going to be the same either way. The other four are mirror image. So at worst, if you wire the tow vehicle's receptacle the wrong way and activate the right turn signal, the trailer's signal won't flash; then you know to switch those 4 (swap black & brown, and swap yellow & green) and test again.
