GC2-XDH neglected

Just bought a Escape 21, late 2014, hardly used as the owners husband had died... Discovered the Batts aren't holding a very.good charge. Popped the caps off them, most cells were below the.tpp of the plates 😨

Added distilled water to the bottom of the sleeves, and plugged in to charge overnight. So what are the odds these 2 GC2-XDH will recover?

If I have to replace them should I spring for AGM?

I would say they have a good chance of recovering, provided they are desulfated. There are lots of portable charger/desulfation gadgets out there, and by most accounts they work.

No matter what you do though, they probably won't last as long as batteries that were always properly maintained. But if you can get decent service from them for a couple years then it's worth the attempt.

I've put them on overnight charge, and ran a load test, hooked up a 5A dummy load and the voltage went from 12.7 to 12.2V in 10 minutes. thats effin ridiculous, like ~ 2 AH from a 230 AH nominal battery.

it took over a quart of distilled water to top off all 6 cells. These are dead.

Yes, but charging a badly neglected battery isn't going to cut it. They may well be unserviceable, but an attempt at desulfation might make them useable. I've also seen plenty of videos where they were successfully "revived" using Epsom Salt. No idea if that works, just relating what I've seen.
