Help attaching a Dome light

I want to add a dome light over the dinette in my 13' Scamp. I would rather not make any new holes in the roof. That leaves me with few options. Velcro to the rat fur, or glue to the rat fur, or cut away the rat fur and glue to the fiberglass. Are there any other options? Is the shell thick enough to screw into without going all the way through?

That double sided tape made for exterior applications is awesome stuff.

What year Scamp and do you actually have "Rat Fur"?
I have seen some people ask about it and they think they have it but they have vinyl or something and are calling it Rat Fur?

If it is Rat Fur and is Hairy and soft????I would try to use a Drapery Hook that you slide into the furs backing and fasten to that with something very light weight.
Luckily you can get very light weight LED fixtures and you could Wire Tie them to a Drape Hook if needed.

I too a different approach in my Casita and wrapped the perimeter at ceiling height with LED Rope Light.
It provides a nice light throughout the trailer.

if it is going to be a permanent install, I would epoxy a a wood block (sized to be flush with rat fur) , to fiberglass, attach light and wiring to that, or cut away the rat fur and velcro, or double sided tape attaching light the fiberglass. i would think just attaching it with tape or velcro to the rat fur would pull the rat fur down. I replaced my 110 fluorescent light over my dinette, and being lazy not wanting to drill new holes, just attached replacement light with velcro, hasnt fallen in diner yet!! Also the shell isnt more that a 1/8 to 1/4in thick if your lucky..........

Gary, does your Scamp not have an overhead storage unit over the dinette?
Most of the ones I have seen do, and that would be the place to put the light. That is where Scamp puts them when you order the extra lights.

It is a 1987 13 footer and has a carpet like material over a plastic and foil insulation. I like the idea of epoxying a wood block, but I went with using construction adhesive right on the rat fur. If that doesn't hold I'll cut the material and use the wood block idea.

No rear cabinet, which is why I have to mount it to the ceiling.
