Honda Generators Run Time

Just curious if you have a run time engine meter on you little Honda and how many hours it has on it. The one I bought in early 2002 is about to turn over 2,000 hrs. Beginning to puff a little smoke on start up but does not burn oil between oil changes and still purrs right along. My second one has a little problem with the choke lever jiggling around and causes it to surge if I don't put a little piece of tape to keep it in place after start up. It has clocked 800 hrs. Sometimes I connect them together when needed.

Limited use, but it has one.

If you were driving a car at 60 mph that would be 120,000 miles in 2000 hours so for a little air cooled engine that is pretty good. The puffing of blue smoke may be your valve guide seals being worn.

I agree, the puff of smoke is more than likely the valve stem seals. By not changing the seals, can cause carbon build up in the top end of the engine. Maybe causing shorter engine life. I read on another forum. subject being Honda eu2000i. It was claimed by a poster that his eu2000i had over 3500 hours on it and still running well. He had installed a hour meter when brand new.

If you are using two eu2000i hooked together to run your a/c. You might want to look at a soft start for you a/c. I have on my a/c and the single Honda eu2000i will start the a/c no problem even on eco throttle. No brown, out just a smooth start on the ac compressor
