How do you make turn signals work on side lights?
Hi all,
Has anyone got the know how on making the side marker lights as I call them or park light lights flash when your rear turn signals flash?
I would really like to know how to pull this little project off as I find it nice to be able to look in the side mirror and see the little side lights flashing away when I'm turning.
Advice and diagrams is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Russ

You need a converter and...
I did it using a second set of side marker lights and a converter. I used a second set of side marker lights because I didn't know how I could wire up a fixture with only a 1 filament bulb to do 2 different functions.

Vehicle to Vehicle Taillight Converter Part #118158
The 1st link talks about a 3rd brake light output, which I discovered has to be connected to a lamp fixture to make the turn signal outputs (that the link has capped off) work. I did not care about adding a 3rd brake light to the back of my trailer, so I just connected it to a light hidden inside a compartment. I connected the yellow (left) and green (right) outputs to the second set of side marker lights mounted above the regular side marker lights.

Great Info! Thanks! I will tinker around in the garage this afternoon and I'm sure I will have more questions for you, lol.
Cheers!

I installed additional LED lights that I purchased at Walmart on both sides of the camper and they are wired to the turn signals. Walmart has some for less than $10 in yellow or red.

I seem to have done something wrong when I wired up my new LED tail lights. I get no lights at all? Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot? My old lights worked fine.
Does the white ground wire coming out of the trailer have to be connected to metal on the trailer? I connected to white wire coming from the Boler directly the the white wire on the LED lights. Perhaps this is my trouble?

Art, do those extra lights also come on with the stop lights?

Russ, you are trying to wire a motor vehicle light to an RV light. The white wire is ground for the trailer and black in the light.

Ground wire is white. Typically at the trailer tongue it is bolted or riveted to the trailer frame. The other lights white eire must each be grounded to the frame.
Alternatively all the white wires can be bonded together with wire. More work, a bit more wire so that adds weight and time to install.
If your lights are not working, the typical problem is the ground.

Ok, so I'm a bit confused still.
From the picture I've posted. I have White - White wire, Green (boler) - Black (light) and Brown (boler) - Red (light). From the replies so far, I'm not sure I'm understanding my where I went wrong. Sorry folks but can you let me know if the wires I've connected together are done correctly.
Thanks again
Russ

Trailer wiring harness :
Yellow is left turn,
green is right turn ,
Brown is running lights,
White is ground.
For tail light assemblies
Black is running lights
Red are turn signal indicators
White is ground.
All other lights are wired to the brown on the trailer harness (running lights)

If you want side lights to flash like signal lights wire separate lights to the red on the appropriate sides, which will also be yellow on the left and green on the right of the trailer harness.

Some lights, mainly the foreign made ones , I have found do not use the standard color code. Just recently wired some up that used red as tail light and black as turn !!

It is really easy to do by relocating a couple of wires. Rather than me explain it, read here;
Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply
I haven't tried it on a trailer when pulling with a TV that uses a light converter box. It may interfere with the electronics in some way.
