LED taillight conversion for Boler
We bought the 4" LED round taillights from Princess Auto. They fit perfectly into the red taillight cover but we've run into a problem trying to reattach it to the Boler - on the back of the LED there is a protrusion.
For others who have installed this light, did you cut a small hole in the Boler taillight area? Or is there some sort of mounting collar to accommodate that protrusion?
Many thanks,
Sarah

Those are not the lights I would use as princess auto carries a little larger led which is a better fit on the boler . They are on sale usually every couple of months but are not right now .they will also not require you to make a big hole.

Yeah, but I was going based on this site's recommendations: Boler Parts - Boler-Camping
This guy said he used the 4"one, so that's what I bought...
Ugh. We're about 2.5 hr. away from Princess Auto...

If you look at the site you posted you'll see the third picture down with th e 7 in lights , those are the perfect fit for a boler .The lights you have will work but in mho they will not look as good

If you want to use your original taillight lenses, with a LED assembly inside, you will need to use the 4" ones. The 7" units will not fit inside your original lenses.
You should have no problem if you cut a hole to allow for clearance with the 4" units. Just make sure to seal the hole, butyl tape would probably be best.
I would consider cutting a 4" hole and mounting the 4" LEDs flush, then fit the original lens over top.

Yes I would agree with Kent if that was your intent to install them inside your original lense.

One thing with LED's is will your RED led's shine enough through your RED lenses.
Call the store, speak to the manager and see if you can exchange what you have by mail saving the long drive!

There is no problem with red LEDs shining through a red lens.
They will be much, much more visible than the original incandescent bulb!

Hi Sarah, you used my information and it works great, you bought the correct 4" lights and will not have any troubles. These provide and extremely bright light through the existing "wedding cake" lens and look far better on a boler that the bus lights in my opinion.
Mount the 4" lights inside the lens like you have shown, you will need to cut a small square in the body behind the lens for the modular plug to fit. Use butyl tape to seal around the original lens flange to seal it to the body. Don't tighten the lens screws too tight ofr you can crack the lens.

Would it not be possible to cut the small square off the light and rewire?

The terminals on the back of the light connect directly to the circuit board so you cannot cut it off, the construction of the 4" lens is also sealed against water, cutting the terminal area would allow moisture to enter inside the lens and electronics
