Routing wiring

Hi All...I have a 2017 Casita and I want to route wiring from the rear upper cabinet to the battery box. Has anyone run wire under the wall covering? I have installed a Lipo battery and I want to install a battery monitor and the say to keep wire runs short. If I can find a way to run the wire under the wall covering would use about 6 feet of wire...If I need to run from the upper cabinet to the bulkhead then down and over to the battery would use about 15 feet. Any help would be grateful appreciated..Thanks in advance John

I did run a wire under the "Rat Fur" in my Casita Deluxe a while back from the rear upper cabinet down to where the battery sits in the rear / road side cubby ... I cut a small hole, in the fur, inside of the corner of the cabinet. I then took a long stiff wire about the diameter of a coat hanger, that I had made a loop in the end, so it was blunt. Then slowly pushed this wire into the hole in a downward direction. You can feel the wire under the "Rat Fur" and if you go slow it will go down all the way. I had to use a screw driver on the bench seat fiberglass to pry a bit but the wire did go into the lower cubby ... when down there, I cut another hole and got the wire out. Now you have this in the wall, you can tape the electrical wire to the loop with some, not much, electrical tape and, gingerly pull the stiff wire out with the electric wire following. It took 3 tries before I got it to come out at the top ... it kept on slipping out of the tape but on the third try, I got it.

I was installing some additional tail lights on a 2010 Liberty yesterday and needed to pull four wires on each side to the center seam and down to the rear floor to connect to the existing wire run.

It wasn't too difficult pushing a metal fish tape through but when I tried to pull four wires through each side it was too tight, I finally pulled a piece of small nylon cord though and "flossed" it back and forth followed by connecting (electrical tape) a larger nylon rope and repeating the flossing which allowed the four wires to be pulled through.

The small hole I drilled from outside the trailer that the wires are inserted through won't be noticeable.

I'll re-glue the center seam after final testing.

Battery monitor wiring

Just connect the monitor to one of the overhead lights. The back side of them are accessible inside the cabinet. Reading won't be accurate when plugged in to shore power, but battery voltage reading is necessary only when boondocking.

Are you installing a simple battery voltage monitor or a monitor with a battery shunt to display loads, battery capacity, etc. such as a Victron BMV-712.

I installed a shunt near the battery and had to get the signal wire from the lower base to the upper cabinet above the sink.

In my case I just pushed it under the edge trim where it occasionally moves out a little as pictured just behind the paper towel holder.

I fished another wire this week behind the white wall material for an overhead cabinet light by pushing the fish tape downward from the inside rear of the cabinet and it popped out between the the sink and stove underneath the countertop.

It gets easier with practice!
