Scamp 13 battery/electrical issue

We have a 13 ft scamp. The 120 v electrical system works fine. We installed a new deep cycle rv battery to operate the furnace and lights where the is not electric in campgrounds. The lights brighten and dim at 15 sec interval anf the converter make a fairly loud "boing" sound. The furnace will not light will just the battery power. The furnace if fine under 120 volt. Is our converter bad or is something else wrong? We have disconnected our new battery until we figure out what is wrong. For the record, we rplaced the fuses and the white wire is attached to the positive terninal.
Please help us!!! Thank you. Glenn

Scamp 12 VDC wiring

Normal Scamp 12 VDC wiring Black is hot+ and White is Ground-. There should be a decal stating so by the battery. The black wire should have a fuse in the line and connected to the + term. If you have white connected to + I would say you battery is hooked up backwards.

This sounds like you have a short circuit that is protected by an automatic circuit breaker that is resetting and tripping, resetting and tripping every 15 seconds. You will need to track it down.

Always check your wire leads to the battery with a gauge, it sounds like you may have hooked it up incorrectly. Double check the leads prior to hook up with a tester and then attach them and test again also verify volt output. Possible the battery is low.

My converter is fused in case the battery is incorrectly connected. Perhaps they used a circuit breaker for that purpose here. I would swap the battery connection putting black to positive and white to negative since Eddie says that's the color coding Scamp uses. Check the inline fuse as well. Raz

p.s. welcome to the forum.

Scamp has two inline fuses to check as well. One near the battery and one just inside the trailer at the point the wiring enters the trailer - on mine it was hidden under the rat fur on the front wall of the trailer.

Thank you very much! We finally did figure that out. As Homer Simpson might say, "Doh!" Things are working fine now thank goodness.
