Scamp’s factory installed solar

I’m getting ready to finally order my 19’ Scamp, ( ) and I am going through and deciding what options I may need. I do want to use solar, and wanted to know what ‘s included in Scamp’s solar panel kit and if it will be worth the $475 price tag, or if I should invest more in portable solar panels and power stations?

I just posted on another thread on this subject. The portable panel can be set up in the sun while your Scamp might be parked under a tree. But a permanently mounted panel is harder to steal. Everything is a trade-off.

That's a pretty good price for installed solar. Roof solar means it'll be charging your battery going down the road. I have both roof and portable and I recommend that for reasons stated. The total cost is tiny compared to the price of your new 19' Scamp.
And adding the portable later is easy, but not so with the roof installation.

Hi, did you get Scamp factory Samlex Solar panel in the end? Is the non-waterproof installed inside the scamp I assume? in the product manual, it says the controller is permanently attached on the back of one of the 3 panels.

Akisong I actually found a used Scamp 19’, which did not have a solar package. I imagine I’ll wind up using a Jackary and solar panels.

I'm already charging my lithium batteries while going down the road. And I do it sun, or no sun, without solar. I use a Orion-TR Smart 12/12V-30A Isolated Charger. And my cost was about 1/2 what the solar cost.

I think the advantage is, you don't have to be plugged into the tow vehicle in order to charge using solar, definitely a benefit if you're boondocking, maybe not so much if your on the road, but if you are buying solar anyway to charge while parked, why spend extra

And if you're camped in the same spot without hookups for a week or longer with temps in the 20-30's at night? I don't want to be the a-hole running my vehicle at the site or even have to hook our vehicle to the camper.

Don't even get me started on the cheap construction generators so common now.

We now have 465 watts on the roof and have yet to use more than 65 ah's during our extended stays of a week or longer, even in shade. We wasted money on big batteries when a set of old fashioned flooded batteries will now easily do the job, and we use a 1,500 watt inverter without worrying about battery power.
