switch incandescent to LED
Simple question: are there LED light fixtures to replace our incandescent ceiling fixtures, eg in a Boler 1700, to save on battery juice when off power. Is the wiring adequate? It would have to be exactly the same size, to fit in the ensolite opening, I guess. I haven't seen any, but then don't have many RV stores around here. Thanks!

I checked out that link....so we are changing the bulb only, not the fixture, is that right?

You can just change the bulb, but unless you're a purist you may find it cheaper to change the fixture too. The bulbs aren't inexpensive.
On edit: these are neato: http://www.ledtrailerlights.com/rv/RV-led.htm

Now if only I had some idea of how many lumens my existing single and double interior incandescent fixtures put out....
Just answered my own question! The common 1156 series bulb often used in trailer incandescent fixtures puts out about 400 lumens per bulb (402 if we wanna be precise!) so the 252 lumens per unit for the LED ones will NOT be as bright. However, it will be a different "color" of light and may actually appear as bright. The 1156 uses 27 watts of power each.
(Your experience may vary)
On the other hand 1141 series bulbs are also commonly used in RV lighting fixtures - maybe more often than 1156's! If you have a series 1141 bulb, their rated output is 264 lumens, quite comparable to the LED's 252 lumens. The 1141 uses 18 watts of power, while the LED seems to use 2.6 watts per unit if I am reading the details correctly on the site Donna provided.

Speaking of LED lights, I just got a flyer from Camping World and they now carrying LED light fixtures for RVs. The one thing they don't say is how much current they draw. I plan on visiting Camping World soon and see if I can find out. I think it would be great to replace all of my indoor lighting with LEDs.

I bought a set of LED bulbs that were meant for trailer tail/brake lights. I decided that they weren't bright enough, so I tried them inside instead. They work great! Not only arethey nice and white, but they use only about 1/12 of the wattage. This is good for me, since the 12v in my Scamp runs on a jump pack.

I was in my local Camping World store and saw their new LED bulbs on display. They have the 1141/1156 equivalents, for on/off. I have 2 fixtures that use 1157 bulbs for hi/lo/off, one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom, which I like to use on the lo setting for those middle of the night potty times. They don't have any 1157 equivalent bulbs for those fixtures.

Wow! I thought the $20 Tork Lift Central in Kent asked was expensive! Plus they had some that featured a flat section which pointed all the LEDs in one direction, presumbably out.

I went with a flat 36 LED array (6x6) and secured it flat against the lamp reflector. It shipped with double sided adhesive tape, but I used RTV instead to make sure it doesn't fall off on a hot day.
Regards,
Matt

I switched mine all over to LED this year as I am going to be doing a far bit of off the grid camping this summer in warm areas and wanted to save what ever power I can to make sure my fantastic fan has enough to keep going.
Purchased the the flat ones that fit into the socket of the original fixtures. Paid about $18 per at a local RV shop. Took a little getting use to the change but they will do the job just fine.

I think SuperbrightLeds have the 1157 bulbs (dual element) which is what you may need.

I have LED lights from Dinodirect which I installed in my trailer. They work perfectly and are very bright. I got the 5050led type lamps for a dome light and wired them in.
All kinds available. Prices were hard to beat.

Expect today's crop of LEDs to seem about 2/3 as bright, but they only use 10%-15% as much current. So you can turn 2 of them on if you need extra light (for reading maybe) but still use far less juice.
