I have this type of power pack, and used it to run a cooler before we had the
Boler, but now it is just a portable self-powered air compressor and work
light for us, as well as emergency van starting
battery (nothing wrong with the van, but I've run the
battery down accidentally by leaving interior
lights on ).
My only caution about using one of these power packs is that they really don't have very big batteries. The rating on Xantrex units (the 600 in this case), at least as
sold by Canadian Tire, is their peak output, not their capacity (600 watts of AC power in this case; mine is rated by peak DC amps). They usually use AGM batteries which can put out impressive current for their size, so the one we have (with a battery the size that a small motorcycle would use) cranks our van very well; however, it is much smaller than a typical trailer battery (in physical size and
electrical capacity).
The
Xantrex 600HD has a 28 amp-hour battery. That's much bigger than mine, but one quarter of the capacity of a Group 27 deep-cycle RV battery... and you shouldn't run any battery all the way down. The run times on their web page assume you are running in down completely. It might still be enough, and the all-in-one powerpack would be a convenient way to go... I would add up my requirements to check before going with this plan.
