Anode Rod - Winterizing - In or Out?
I winterized my Parkliner and removed the anode rod which needs to be replaced. I just got the new one. Is there any good reason to not put it in now and wait until I de-winterize?

If you put it in now, you'll know where it is in the spring.
BTW, this anode ( pic ) has two or three season left in it.

I just leave mine out when I'm not using the trailer for a few days or longer. I stick it in the front of the HWH inside the hatch. I keep a small piece of screen mesh over the anode opening to keep bugs out and it allows the tank to dry out on its own. Removing it when you're not using it will increase the life of the anode considerably.

If there is no water in the tank, nothing should happen to the anode.
This one has been installed year round for six years and is good for several more.

I just replaced my anode-it was all white and "swiss cheese like"-after one year?? The bolt was also very rusty and hard to get off. There seemed to be a lot of whatever the material was on it(only a 4.5 inch one) but the packaging said to replace annually?? Was I taken...is it down to just the middle wire when it needs to be replaced? Is 2-3 seasons the usual? Thank-you! Barb

These are examples from ( I think Camping World ) of good and bad anodes.
If it is just full of holes, it probably doesn't need to be replaced.

This is my anode after six years, and it doesn't need to be replaced yet.

anode
Thank-you Glenn, I bet that I could have used my anode a while later...wish I had taken a picture. There was still a lot of the anode material but it was all bumpy not just holes. My water heater is from 02 so maybe it needs to do more work and since it is only the short one maybe it works harder. Barb

I've had my Parkliner slightly under 2 years and had to replace the anode twice. I rarely use the hot water tank. I might start removing the anode when not using the trailer.

I pull my anode in the fall when I winterize my trailer . I clean the threads going into the tank for the anode with a small toothbrush style brush and coat the female threads with vaseline.
I replace the anode every other year and flush the tank each spring with a wand .

I replace anodes when they need to be replaced. I remove mine every season when winterizing the egg, put it where I kno9w where to find it in the spring, and use a cast iron pipe plug to seal the hole over the storage season.

Excellent ideas...may make it easier to check each fall. I could not remove the anode this fall myself. Thank-you! Barb
