Care of camco water filter in between trips

Hi Everyone,

I hope your catching my post while camping with wifi! I go this Sunday and can't wait. Wondered if you could help me clear up some confusion...my Wally World Camco water filter canister says it's good for one season, but I would imagine that's with continued use and connection to water.

I read somewhere here that you have to store them a certain way between trips or they grow bacteria. I think I remember reading you can't let them dry out?

I only wash dishes with the water in the trailer but after reading something here, I learned its a good idea to trap sediment to keep it out of your pump.

I didn't use it on my first two trips because I hadn't had time to post and ask all of you, so trailer has had unfiltered water running through it a bit.

Hope someone can clear this up for me and thanks!

Wendy

Just so others with the same question as I will know...I emailed Camco and they told me to get as much water out of filter as possible, cap the ends with provided rubbery caps, place in gallon sized Ziplock bag and keep in fridge.

Cheers!

Wendy

Water filters can do more harm than good. See http://manmrk.net/tutorials/RV/phred/water.html

Thank you for sharing that Dan. I don't filter the water for drinking. It's just to keep the dirt or rust out of my tank. I only wash dishes with the tank water.

I haven't even learned how to fire up my hot water tank yet so the dishes get washed cold!
