Installing larger tanks in Scamp?

I have acquired a 1987 16 Scamp. It has water heater, shower and stool, but I have figured out there are some differences in specs between it and the newer models.

The fresh water tank holds less than 10 gallons and I am guessing the grey water holds about the same. Have not checked the black water yet. I am guessing that the small tanks were either just what they started making and/or were all that the 2000# axle could handle.

I am planning on having the axle replaced with a 3500#, so am wondering about replacing tanks with larger ones. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks for any input,

Jackpine

The new Scamps grey water tanks are now 26 Gal. Scamp newer fresh water tanks only hold 12 Gal. but they start after a certain year. The black water tank is what it is.
There is a thread by Jared J. about his S-19 he really increased his fresh and grey water tank sizes by buying elsewhere. I will try to find a link for you.

Try thread #172, he starts the tanks around here and more posts later.

My '79 Scamp only had a 10G fresh water tank- and some non working plumbing to go with it, no grey tank and no toilet.

I replaced it with a 20G fresh water tank in the same location, I bought a "barker" tank. I added the new style 26G guy tank, bought from Scamp. As well as the Sealand tank/toilet combo Scamp sells.

Yep, I have twin 20 gallon fresh water tanks, and a 36-38 gallon (depends on what info you read) gray water tank now. I was wonder how it would tow, but it pulls great with full or half-full tanks.

I did some work to it to fit things. I welded supports under both fresh water tanks, to help support them and the camper shell. I don't know if it's necessary, but it made me feel better.

I had to cut out the cross member under the table and weld a new one in a few inches back to fit the gray water tank. After 5 days of camping with 3 of us, there was still 2/3 of the tanks left (although no showers or bathroom use, the camp had them).

My 92 has a 12 gallon Fresh water tank and and a 26 gal Grey water. As been mentioned the black water tank is above the floor inside the trailer and forms part of the toilet.

Instead of fabricating or buying bigger storage tanks, how about making or buying a tote to get rid of the waste as needed? I'm not into storing waste water. YMMV
