Removing water heater

Has anyone tried to remove an electric water heater from an older Scamp? I have a 1984 19' 5er and I want to remove the old electric water heater. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to want to come out through any of the openings. I hate to cut up the cabinet so I may have to take it out. I'm thinking Scamp must have built the cabinet after putting the water heater in place.

Mine has a year old one in it, I was trying to figure that out, too.

I thought all cabinets were either riveted or screwed to the floor/walls. If you have fiberglass cabinets, it's not like they created the cabinets inside the trailer. I think you just need to find and remove the cabinet fasteners, pull the cabinet out and then you can get to the hotwater heater and that plumbing.

I think all water heaters go in from the outside, either screwed or riveted to the fiberglass from the outside.

Simply remove the screws, discinnect the water, propane and electricity and it slides out.

Generally no need to remove cabinets

Not the one in my 1988, the outside opening is too small. Neither would it come out through the top hatch of the dinette cabinet. The bend/cabinet would have to be removed.

Norm,
These are 6 gallon home style 110v hot water heaters not propane water heaters. A big old round "house" water heater.

Steve, is there a quarter round or does the carpet butt right up againt the bottom of the cabinet? You'll probably need to pull it back to see where the cabinet is fastened to the floor. Along the wall, there are blocks the cabinets are fastened to. Can you see anything along the back wall, or get your head (mirror) inside the cabinet?

We know the cabinets come out, we've seen pictures where members have pulled them out to paint them...

I'm taking the cabinets out anyhow, was just hoping there was an easier way. I now have most of my remodel stuff and will strip it as soon as I get back from Quartzite. The cabinets and benches are coming out and not going back in. I just don't want to ruin them in case I or someone else needs them in the future.

I thought this problem rang a bell...

Here's a link to a thread from last year where a member with a Scamp of unknown age was able to get the water heater out the side opening after drilling out the rivets (pic of opening below)

Steve's hot water heater is different Francesca. Imagine your home hot water heater (round), but squatty... a 6 gallon. It's the same one in my 1988. Mine continues to work just fine (with an anode change), but Steve's seems to have died... or he wants something different.

Well, I wasn't sure, and thought maybe someone else with the same problem (but maybe different year trailer) might learn something from the other thread, too!

Not sure if it works or not. What I know is it won't work unless I'm plugged in somewhere. If I'm plugged in generally that means I have showers, restrooms, etc and really no need for a hot water heater. I was over where it is stored and going through some of the things that I want to do when I came upon this huge monstrosity under the sink. I was just wondering how the heck people get that thing out of there or change it if they have to.

Steve, I suppose you could try to tear it apart while it's still in the cabinet. But, once you go down that road and if it doesn't work... you'll still need to remove the cabinet. I'd remove the cabinet before I butchered it up by cutting a bigger hole. YMMV

I'm tearing all the cabinets out when I get back from Quartzite in a couple weeks anyway so no big deal. I was just curious what the heck people did with these things when they break.
