water pump reassemble

Hi all!
My 1973 boler 1300 has a leaky manual water pump. water was coming out from the base of the hand pump, before I go out and start buying new parts I thought I would start by giving it a good clean, the old owners never used it so who knows when the last time It had water through it. I took it apart and gave it a good clean and the seal looks to be in decent condition, not dried out or cracked at all. It had a bunch of the goopy brown grease all over it, I clean it all off because it was pretty gross looking, but I'm wondering if I need to reapply somw kind of grease before putting it all back together.

A picture would really help in determining which area you are talking about.

If it is a pivot pin, yes lube it, if it is the pump seal, food safe, or beer tap wax may be needed.
